A. Gordon Clark, who retired from Penske in 2005, passed away on Sept. 2, in Chagrin Falls, Ohio at the age of 90.

Clark's career in the transportation business spanned seven decades - a time in which he worked for major corporations in the United States and abroad.

After serving in the Canadian Navy during World War II, he started his business sales career disposing of war surplus materials. Soon after, Clark discovered his love for trucks and joined White Motor Corp. in the early 1950s as branch manager of the company's Toronto operation.

White Motors soon promoted Gordon to head their entire Canadian sales and marketing operations and consequently appointed him vice president sales and marketing. In 1980, Gordon joined Daimler Benz AG as a consultant to help establish the company's North American truck business.

He subsequently was appointed senior vice president of sales and marketing for Freightliner Corp., which Daimler Benz had recently acquired.

In 1989, Gordon joined Penske Corp. and worked closely with Roger S. Penske in their effort to re-establish Detroit Diesel's leadership with the electronically controlled Detroit Diesel Series 60.

Gordon retired from Penske in 2005 at age 83.
