Fleet Survey Indicates Increased Activity for Class 8 Orders in Q3

Sixty-five percent of the fleet executives that responded to the Q3 2013 Fleet Sentiment survey conducted by CK Commercial Vehicle Research in late July indicated they planned to place orders for Class 8 trucks in the next three months. This is an increase from the 53% that responded affirmatively during the Q2 survey in April.

FTR Reports Another Drop in Class 8 Order Activity for July

FTR Associates has released preliminary data showing July Class 8 truck net orders at 17,307 the lowest level since September 2012. July orders were down 7% from June; however they were 38% better than the same month a year ago.

Iowa DOT to Close I-35 in Warren County Aug. 6-8 for Nighttime Construction

Removal of the Adams Street bridge over Interstate 35 in Warren County, Iowa will require closing the north- and southbound lanes between Iowa 5 (exit 68 near Cumming) and Iowa 92 (exit 56 near Bevington) from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 6, 7 and 8, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.

Westport Reports Net Loss of $33.9 million

Westport Innovations Inc. reported financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013 and provided an update on operations. Westport revenue, excluding joint ventures' revenues, for the quarter ended June 30, 2013 was $34.9 million compared with $49.1 million for the same period last year. The prior quarter period included $14.1 million of service and other revenue recognized under OEM development agreements, including a one-time license revenue of $8.0 million.
