IntelliWhere, a division of Intergraph Mapping and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) Solutions, Huntsville, Ala., and Navigation Technologies, Rosemont, Ill., have announced an agreement that joins IntelliWhere’s Genie product with NavTech’s Navstreets mapping to enable location-based services.

On the consumer side, location-based services might provide the names of restaurants or other specific businesses to a user in a particular location.
IntelliWhere’s web site offers this scenario for fleet users of Genie:
“To increase revenue per vehicle, drivers for a distribution company need to find the best routes for pickups and drop offs, acting on urgent orders based on vehicle location, and ensuring that invoicing is processed at each delivery - using a single, inexpensive, portable device. Further, drivers need access to up to the minute information on traffic, road closures, and other barriers to effective service provision. The distribution company also needs to let its customers visualize inventory location by tracking the transport vehicles by using live maps on the Internet.”
