
A North Carolina fleet has been running a group of trucks on three different Shell Rotella oils -- a 15w-40, a 10w-30, and a 10w-30 that's been altered to provide a lower high-temp/high-shear number than is currently approved. Gasoline in truck diesel engines can give more than 50% efficiency if the combustion process is done correctly. A modified diesel engine running on gasoline could be a way of significantly reducing truck emissions, according to research at Lund University in Sweden. New fuel efficiency standards for large trucks were announced by President Obama just last week. The method could halve fuel consumption for gasoline engines.
