Spireon is introducing an enhanced cargo sensor which allows a truckload carrier to view available cargo space with load status plus the trailer’s used cubic volume and floor space percentages.

IntelliScan ProView, under Spireon’s FleetLocate product line, shows downloadable images from inside the trailer.

“It used to be enough to just report accurate trailer load status, but today, with higher freight volumes and the lack of trailers, all carriers are looking for more trailer capacity,” said Roni Taylor, Senior vice president of strategy at Spireon.

According to Spireon, IntelliScan ProView allows:

  • Truckload carriers to see open space in trailers for additional back haul opportunities.

  • LTL carriers to better plan trailer load cube and move more freight per trailer while educating the dock team to learn best practices for loading.

  • Private fleets to manage inventory in storage trailers and identify backfill opportunities for incremental revenue.

Each ProView cargo sensor is equipped with optical recognition and proprietary machine learning technology. It takes periodic measurements of the surrounding trailer space and sends “percent full” and “percent of used floor space” readings back to the fleet manager’s FleetLocate interface.

“IntelliScan ProView helps us cut costs and that’s the name of the game,” said Brian Morris, operations asset manager of Magnum Less-Than-Truckload. “Now we know if the trailers are fully loaded or if there is an opportunity to add more freight so we can eliminate unnecessary trips. We also see how the freight is being loaded and make sure we’re using the proper tools to secure it and eliminate damage.”

The ProView cargo sensor is mounted at the rear of the trailer and provides a complete view into the trailer during the loading process. When combined with cargo load status detection and downloadable images, ProView provides a comprehensive picture of every trailer’s capacity. This makes it easier to fully utilize all available cargo space.

“ProView is in part a response from what we’ve been hearing from our customers and trailer fleet managers,” said Taylor. “With today’s trailer shortage, utilizing every trailer to its fullest is more important to them than ever. So, we’ve expanded on our technology to deliver more detailed information about a trailer’s floor space. The better the data and visual information, the easier it is for them to get the most out of the trailers they have.”
