Detroit Diesel introduced the Model 6 Detroit Drive Axle, designed for smoother performance and better fuel economy.
The Model 6 is available for single drive 4x2 or tandem 6x2 configurations with ratios from 2.28 – 5.88. It features weight optimized housings, hollow axle shafts and an internal baffle that reduces oil-churning inefficiencies while cruising.
The 4x2 single drive version is designed for LTL Freightliner Cascadia and M2 112 trucks and tractors and has a weight rating of up to 23,000 pounds and 1,750 pound torque capacity.
The 6x2 tandem with tag axle has a weight rating of up to 40,000 pounds with a 1,750 pound torque capacity. With a single drive and tag axle it can match the capacity of a tandem axle while shedding 431 pounds, says Detroit.
The axle doesn’t have a rear carrier or inter-axle differential which improves efficiency by reducing moving parts. Ratios from 3.91 to 2.28 are offered exclusively with integrated Detroit Powertrains which include the Detroit DD15 engine and DT12 automated manual transmission which can further improve fuel economy.
All Detroit axles are available in a wide range of configuration options and are compatible with all Daimler Trucks braking systems which cover every trucking segment. Detroit axles are produced at the company’s manufacturing facility in Redford, Mich.
