Eaton Ups Specs, Renames Synlubes
One specification is for later-model Eaton heavy-duty manual and automated transmissions, and another is for Eaton medium-duty Procision transmissions.

Eaton Commercial Vehicle has renamed its line of synthetic lubricants and added new specifications and labeling. One specification is for later-model Eaton heavy-duty manual and automated transmissions, and another is for Eaton medium-duty Procision transmissions.
Meanwhile, the entire lubricant line now carries the Eaton name, and package labels have been redesigned to easily identify the current generation of products and specifications.
Replacing the decade-old PS-164rev7 spec is the new Eaton PS-386; it is backward compatible and mandatory for Eaton Fuller Advantage Series (FAS) Series transmissions, high torque models, all automated units, and for extended protection plans.
Initial tests have demonstrated fuel economy improvements of 1.5% in non-Fuller Advantage Series transmissions. The new PS-278 spec has been specially formulated for the wet dual-clutch design of Procision transmissions and should not be used in other Eaton transmissions.
A new colorful labeling system that features gold-and-yellow logos identifying all PS-386 lubricants. Light green logos identify PS-278 containers, and light green dip stick tags for Procision transmissions are available.
“There often is confusion about what the right lubricant is for a particular transmission,” said Donna Mosher, engineering technical specialist. “We’ve made it simple, by (the customer) either purchasing Eaton-branded lubricants or looking for the new ‘Eaton-Approved Lubricant’ logo on the package. Taking one of these steps will reduce the risk of having the improper lubricant for your transmission.”
Eaton-branded lubricants now include two axle fluids in FE 75W-90 and 80W-140 weights, multi-purpose grease, and the two transmission fluids.
