MATS, LOUISVILLE -- East Manufacturing has made two weight-saving products standard on many of its trailers: Alcoa’s new Ultra One wheel and Jost International’s AX150 Alumilight series of landing gear.  

At just 40 pounds, the Ultra ONE is the lightest wheel in its class, which increases payload while remaining strong enough for demanding applications, said Dave de Poincy, East’s president. It will be standard on trailers specified with dual-position 22.5- by 8.25-inch wheels.

The new wheel uses Alcoa’s MagnaForce alloy, which is 17% stronger than its previous alloy, making it 5 pounds lighter than the wheel it replaces in the East lineup, he said. It thus saves 40 pounds per tandem versus the current 22.5 wheels.

Ultra one-piece forged aluminum strength is five times stronger than steel wheels with a 7,400-pound load rating and 130-psi inflation rating. East is the first trailer manufacturer to offer the new premium wheel as standard equipment, providing a premium choice in the marketplace without the premium up-charge, de Poinct said.

The Jost AX150 Alumilight landing gear will be standard on all East BST, BST II, MMX and Narrow Neck flatbed trailers, and all BST, BST II and XLD drop-deck trailers.

The JOST Alumilight series aluminum landing gear is up to 50 pounds lighter per set than competitive gear, for added payload. Its 6061-T6 extruded aluminum upper leg combined with a polyester-coated HSLA steel lower leg provides corrosion-resistance and durability to stand up to harsh conditions.

Its gearing mechanism is integrated into the sturdy leg column for protection and water intrusion. A silicone-sealed steel cover keeps moisture out to further protect the landing gear from water and road chemical damage, and freezing.

Available with inboard and outboard mounting, standard JOST gear train allows easy interchangeability. Its maximum static load rating is 160,000 pounds with a rated lift capacity of 55,000 pounds and a side load capacity of 29,000 pounds per set.
