During his first years at Frito-Lay more than 20 years ago, Mike O’Connell was focused on the warehousing end of the distribution business. About eight years ago, with the help of a talented team of engineers and others (who O’Connell is adamant about giving part of the credit for his success), he has turned the Frito-Lay fleet into a model of efficiency and sustainability and today is senior director, supply chain. The big shift to slope-nosed aero trucks began nearly 20 years ago, and since then engineers and designers have been refining the design. Today we see tweaks and twists yielding just the tiniest of gains, yet they are all steps in the right direction. What follows is a pictorial review of some of the changes we've seen in recent years -- some dramatic, some very subtle, but all aimed at killing fewer bugs.
