Inside Meritor's Parts Distribution Center

Ever wonder exactly how the parts you order get to you when you need them where you need them? Aftermarket Editor Denise Rondini recently visited Meritor's Florence, Ky., Parts Distribution Center. It handles 27 different product lines comprising 161,000 parts numbers. Each day 30 to 40 truckloads of parts and components arrive at the facility. An equal number of trucks leave the PDC each day carrying parts to dealers and independent parts distributors.

Rush Tech Skills Rodeo 2013

Rush Truck Centers’ eighth annual Tech Skills Rodeo Dec. 15-17 drew about 550 people to San Antonio. That included 106 technicians who competed in 13 equipment categories for cash and other prizes. Most brought along wives or girlfriends. Top champ was Jason Swann, from Dallas, who received his award from Rush Chairman Rusty Rush and Nascar driver Tony Stewart. A Change in Aerodynamics

Most of the low-hanging aerodynamic fruit has already been plucked from the engineering tree. Truck makers and their design teams are now actively exploring options they would have ignored a decade ago. It's all about the cost of fuel. The big shift to slope-nosed aero trucks began nearly 20 years ago, and since then engineers and designers have been refining the design. Today we see tweaks and twists yielding just the tiniest of gains, yet they are all steps in the right direction. Inside TMC's 2013 SuperTech Competition

The Technology & Maintenance Council of ATA said 128 technicians from around the U.S. won their way to Pittsburgh for the 2013 SuperTech competition by topping hundreds more competitors in state-level contests. SuperTech, now in its ninth year, is the highest level in the nationwide competition that encourages talented young people to become truck technicians and honors them for their prowess. Inland Truck Parts' Dedicated Training Facility

Inland Truck Parts is an independent parts and service operation, but it says the quality of its technicians rival that of OE dealers. Its latest commitment to that is a new 15,000-square-foot training facility in Olathe, Kan., a Kansas City suburb.
