At the core of the new VNX heavy-haul and vocational tractor is a Volvo integrated powertrain featuring a newly introduced D16 engine with 600 horsepower, 2,050 pounds-feet of torque and I-Shift automated manual transmission.

Volvo Trucks will now offer its I-Shift automated manual transmission as standard on all Volvo-powered trucks built for the North American market. Manual transmissions will be available as an option.

Volvo's new suspension uses "blades" instead of springs for smoother braking and less tire wear.

Volvo showcased its prototype D13-LNG engine, which is says is the first integrated natural gas model for the North American market. It will use compression ignition powered by liquifed natural gas.

New Volvo air disc brakes  feature a smaller, lighter disc for front axles and easier maintenance for rear axles.

New Volvo air disc brakes will make their debut on VN models later this year. The company says Volvo’s new air disc brakes reduce stopping distances from 355 to 250 feet, adding the brakes also create smoother stops and reduced brake fading and provide a more comfortable ride.

A revised Worldtrucker smart-phone app and website was unveiled during the Mid-America Trucking Show by Lisa Kelly, star of the History Channel’s Ice Road Truckers and IRT: Deadliest Roads.
The app and website, www.worldtrucker.com, are available for iPhone and Android devices, and enable truck drivers to connect and share experiences from their lives on the road.

Volvo added SmartWay-compliant aerodynamic chassis fairings to its VN models.
