XATA Corp. announced Tuesday that Valley Proteins, a large recycler and renderer of food processing by-products in the U.S., is implementing XATANET in its fleet of 450 vehicles

operating at 22 sites.
XATANET is a web-based fleet management and communications solution delivered through an ASP (application service provider). ASP software -- or hosted solution -- runs on a vendor’s server and is accessed by the customer over the Internet. The ASP model allows fleets to rapidly and cost-effectively use technology without having to install, maintain and upgrade software.
Valley Proteins fleet collects raw materials, animal by-products and used restaurant grease from more than 40,000 suppliers that range from small restaurants, butcher shops and grocery stores to large poultry and meat processors.
Valley Proteins trucks typically operate in a multiple-stop environment, making it important to monitor and measure how drivers run their routes and provide guidance on areas of improvement after routes have been completed. Many of these vehicles operate in areas where cellular coverage is unavailable, making XATA’s multi-mode communications capability necessary to maintain driver productivity and monitor driver safety.
XATA uses a flexible “least cost” approach by switching between digital cellular and satellite networks based on availability, creating a speed and coverage advantage while reducing ongoing wireless costs.
XATANET provides the applications, hosting and services via a centralized infrastructure delivering fleet management functionality and scalability at a monthly cost based on usage. Valley Proteins expects use key XATA applications, including electronic logs, state fuel tax, fuel management and black box accident data.
