LoadSource and AlertWire have joined forces to offer nationwide freight locating service designed for web-enabled cellular phones.

LoadFone allows truckers to search for freight in over 60,000 cities simply by accessing the wireless web with a digital cell phone. LoadFone is compatible with most digital cell phones sold over the last year, and is available now.
Users of the service must first go to www.loadsource.com and register to become a Loadsource member. You can then log into the LoadFone wireless web site with any cell phone that supports the Wireless Application Protocol. (WAP is a worldwide standard for data access and display on small screens.)
You enter the city and state in which to search, select equipment type, the radius you are willing to deadhead, and whether or not you wish to post your truck off the menu. Available loads from qualified sources will be displayed on the screen within minutes. Select any of the loads to learn the source, deadhead, date and time posted, and weight. Users will also be given directions in case they want to speak with the broker or shipper.
Loadsource is not the only company getting into the wireless load finding market. pFreight of Fruitland, Idaho, a trucking services web site, announced earlier this week its plans to provide access for Internet-ready mobile telephones. In May, Georgia-based NetTrans, an Internet load-matching service, announced mobile access to customers with Internet-ready Palm Pilot computers.
