The New Jersey State Senate and Assembly is honoring the Assn. of Bi-State Motor Carriers Inc., by naming today as "Intermodal Day."

The proclamation salutes the association, "for its efforts in the safe and efficient movement of goods through the Port of New York and New Jersey."
The association, which has its roots in other trucking groups, was established a year ago to focus exclusively on the issues and interests of truckers and the businesses that serve the bi-state harbor.
"Many of the intermodal service improvements in this area are directly attributable to the efforts of our organization and members," said Jeffrey Alan Bader, association president. "We are exceedingly proud that our dedicated and hardworking truckers are being so honored."
The event recognizes marine terminals and individuals at the terminals and in customer service, who have helped make the past year successful through outstanding contributions towards improving service relationships for the truckers.
Intermodal describes the means by which cargo moves from one transportation mode to another from origin to destination.
"The port area handles 80% of the world trade for a 10-state, 260-mile radius," said Bader. "This area represents 34% of the U. S. volume of trade. Trucking companies perform more than 12,000 daily pick-ups and deliveries serve the port. Members of the Bi-State provide over 80% of those services."
