Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, Calif., has announced two new members of its Advisory Council to further the development of Qualcomm's untethered trailer asset management system.

Trucking software providers Maddocks Systems and TMW Systems have joined the council to offer back-office integration for customers.
The Qualcomm Consortium, created in August 2003, consists of leading companies in transportation and mobile asset-driven industries. The Advisory Council consists of strategic partners with a charter to provide integration capabilities from trailer installation through to the customer's back-office.
The untethered trailer asset-management system, as yet unnamed by Qualcomm, will offer an array of sensors and extensive data integration capabilities, using tri-mode (digital cellular, PCS and analog) communications. Test units are being delivered to major fleets this month.
The unnamed trailer tracking system will take the place of TrailerTRACS, an all-analog-cellular system that Qualcomm took from the market after the FCC hedged on previous guarantees to maintain analog service everywhere. According to some consortium sources, Qualcomm expects to market the system commercially near the middle of 2004.
TMW Systems Inc. of Beachwood, Ohio, and Maddocks, Langley, British Columbia, are providers of business software primarily to truckload carriers in North America.
