TMI, which offers TripPak Express and TripPak Online document management services, and Interstate Scales, Evansville, Ind., have developed standards for "fleet friendly" scale tickets.

Interstate engaged TMI to initiate an extensive review that included a fleet's perspective on a scale ticket as a source document and business record. Since that time, several other private scale operators, including a number of shippers, are joining in similar discussions with TMI to incorporate the resulting standard into their own projects to update scale tickets.
The two companies worked together to redesign Interstate Scales' Weigh Ticket and optimized it to be accurately read by commercial imaging equipment used by fleets using TripPak Online.
Interstate Scales recognizes that proof of delivery documents and receipts for trip related expenses, like a Weigh Ticket, are central to the freight billing process. "We were hearing fleets express real frustration about scale tickets smothered in glue, about unfriendly colors and lightweight paper, the kinds of things that jam expensive equipment and increase labor costs," explained Wayne Hargett of Interstate Scales. "We took proactive steps to address these issues, creating an Interstate Scale Weigh Ticket we will release next quarter that can be processed faster and more accurately. A trouble free driver reimbursement is the result, but we see how this will help increase assessorial revenues for our fleet partners too."
