The best trucking industry technicians from all 50 states will soon bring their tool boxes to Valley Forge to compete for awards and prizes at TMCSuperTech2005, the Technology & Maintenance Council's inaugural National Technician Skills Competition.

The test to be the best takes place Sept. 18-20 in conjunction with TMC's 2005 Fall Meeting at the Valley Forge Convention Plaza in Valley Forge, Pa.
The nation's top commercial vehicle/truck technician will be determined through a variety of troubleshooting tests over the two-day event. TMCSuperTech2005 will showcase the high degree of skill and knowledge shown every day by trucking industry technicians. The competition is dedicated to honoring technician professionalism and acknowledging the "best of the best."
Contestants will begin competition with a challenge round consisting of a written multiple choice examination. The top 50 finishers will then advance to compete in the Hands-On Skills Challenge. Contestants will compete in a series of eight stations, covering the following diagnostic skills areas: electrical, HVAC, steering, drive train information, brakes, engine, preventive maintenance and service.
The TMCSuperTech2005 Grand Champion will receive an expense-paid trip to the 2006 Daytona 500, Super Bowl, or an equivalent package – plus other prizes.
SuperTech2005 sponsors hope to generate interest among vocational education students and other potential workers to consider careers as trucking technicians. As with long-haul truck drivers, the industry faces a shortage of these key workers.
