As of June 12, all commercial trucks operating in Canada (including U.S. trucking carriers that operate across the border) must be equipped with an electronic logging device certified by an approved third party testing entity. But when the mandate went into effect, there were no certified devices on the market. Now, there are six.

Trimble and Isaac Instruments have joined Assured Trucking, Pedigree Technologies, Diesel Tech Industries and Hutch Systems as companies that now offer a certified ELD for use in Canada.

Under the terms of Canada’s Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulations, all ELDs must be tested and certified by accredited certification bodies to ensure that they conform to the requirements of the regulation.

Trimble received certification of its eDriver Logs ELD software, paired with Trimble’s PeopleNet Mobile Gateway hardware, confirming that it fully complies with the mandate’s technical standards.

“We are dedicated to providing carriers throughout North America with an ELD that not only complies with both the Canadian and U.S. mandates but enhances all aspects of their operations,” said Elwyn McLachlan, sector vice president of mobility for Trimble Transportation, in a press rlease.

Isaac’s InMetrics Series 2 is also now compliant and certified.

“The formal certification from FPInnovations on behalf of Transport Canada comes after many months of evaluation and testing of Isaac’s ELD solution that automatically tracks hours-of-service requirements,” Isaac officials said in a press release. “The certification marks the successful conclusion of an extensive effort by ISAAC to ensure full compliance with the federal regulation."
