San Diego-based Satellite Security Systems of North America announced plans to expand the distribution of its GlobalGuard tracking system in the U.S. and Mexico.

By agreement with equipment maker Elite Logistics of Freeport, Texas, Satellite Security will incorporate Elite's PageTrack technology into its GlobalGuard asset tracking system, allowing GlobalGuard users to monitor, analyze and control the movement of trucks in transit via the Web.
Integrated GPS and two-way communications allow GlobalGuard owners to log onto Satellite Security's Web site and view the mapped position of their mobile asset or obtain detailed information such as speed, direction of travel, longitude, latitude and street location. GlobalGuard can also remotely control truck functions.
The system works over the Skytel paging network, a division of MCI WorldCom. A separate, two-way pager service is also available for driver communications.
Satellite Security chief operating officer John Phillips said, "Our experiences in Mexico in dealing with both American and Mexican companies is that there is a great demand for an economical GPS-based asset tracking and management solution for Mexico."
Phillips told Truckinginfo.com that Satellite Security also operates a more robust satellite-based system and has customers among leading private fleets. The company is now in discussions with some major commercial carriers, he said.
Satellite Security maintains Mexican offices in Mexico City and Tijuana.
