Rand McNally Updates MileMaker HHG Database
Rand McNally, Skokie, Ill., has released a new version of its MileMaker database

Rand McNally, Skokie, Ill., has released a new version of its MileMaker database.
The upgraded database reflects the latest Household Goods (HHG) Carriers' Bureau Committee's Mileage Guide 18 and includes 7,600 new road segments, 28,000 road updates, 143,000 routable points, 10,000 road classification changes, more than 14.2 billion possible mileage calculations, and more than 726,000 miles of truck-usable highways in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The new database will work with Rand McNally software packages such as MileMaker, IntelliRoute, or RouteTools.
In its announcement, Rand McNally said MileMaker will apply the upgraded network of truck-drivable roads to calculate the shortest distance between two points. Acceptable routes must provide 80,000-pound limits, 10-foot lane widths and bridge heights of at least 13 feet 6 inches.
According to the company, MileMaker software was the first electronic rating and routing product in the 1980s and is the only one on the market to use HHG mileages. MileMaker software runs on platforms that include Mainframe, UNIX, AS/400 and Microsoft Windows.
Rand McNally's Transportation Data Management subsidiary is offering special pre-issue pricing for new software customers through November 29, 2002. Current Rand McNally customers who use MileMaker, IntelliRoute, or RouteTools software will receive the new data and enhancements for no additional charge.
