Qualcomm Raises Bet on Vegas
Qualcomm Inc., San Diego, Calif. announced the expansion of its current Network Operations Center in Las Vegas, Nev

, which backs up the company's primary center in San Diego.
Qualcomm provides mobile communications and GPS to track freight transportation and shipping nationwide.
"Qualcomm chose to expand its current Network Operations Center in Nevada because of the company's desire to reinforce its commitment to this thriving region," said Paul Jacobs, executive vice president and president of Qualcomm Wireless & Internet Group.
The operations center will share a new, secure building with a research and development center formed through a partnership with University of Nevada, Las Vegas Institute for Security Studies, which will research the use of wireless technologies to improve homeland security and highway transportation.
The Network Operations Center in Las Vegas works in conjunction with Qualcomm's main operations center in San Diego, and will act as a fully redundant networking center. The new center in Nevada will house over 100 employees, who will oversee a range of Qualcomm wireless solutions developed to track, secure and protect transportation equipment and cargo, as well as construction equipment.
