Ram Truck says pricing for the 2015 ProMaster City compact cargo van will start at $23,130, plus $995 for destination, and fuel economy is an “unsurpassed” 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

“The new Ram ProMaster City enters the Class 1 market with a long list of customer-focused, best-in-class features, including the highest available payload and cargo capacities,” said Bob Hegbloom, president and CEO of the Ram Truck Brand. Payload is 1,883 pounds with cargo volume of 131.7 cubic feet.

With the 2.4-liter Tigershark gasoline engine and exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission, the new small van also offers 2,000 pounds of towing capacity.

The base price is for a Tradesman cargo van; with SLT trim the van is $24,655. A Wagon with rear and side windows is $24,130, and an SLT Wagon is $25,655. Each adds a destination charge of $995.

Cargo-friendly features include a 48.4-inch span between the rear wheel wells, the widest in the class, allowing flat loading of building sheets and pallets of materials, Ram says. Above the wheel wells, the van’s sidewalls are 60.4 inches apart, and interior roof height is 51.8 inches.

The rear of the Ram ProMaster City is fitted with 60/40 split rear doors. The larger door swings open toward the traffic (driver) side of the van, making it easy to quickly access larger cargo items and not block the path to the curbside of the van.

The 2.4-liter Tigershark I-4 generates 178 hp at 6,400 rpm, while peak torque is 174 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm, which Ram says is greater than any standard-equipment engine in the segment.  The ProMaster City’s 9-speed automatic is a first for a Class 1 cargo van.

Based on the Fiat Doblo compact van, the ProMaster City is assembled at the TOFAS plant in Bursa, Turkey and, to avoid an import tax, it will be upfitted at a Chrysler Group facility in Baltimore, Md. Chrysler dealers will begin receiving them in the first quarter of 2015.
