TMI says Pilot Travel Centers is threatening pull its TripPak Express drop boxes.

According to TMI, Pilot informed them -- along with fleet customers -- that it will remove the drop boxes unless TripPak pays rental fees.
“TripPak has not asked Pilot to remove a single drop box and is taking no action to stop service,” TMI said in a statement. “Pilot's action, without adequate advance notice to either TripPak or to the carrier community, comes as a complete surprise to TripPak, as it was for our clients who first reported the letter.”
TMI says if they paid the Pilot fees, it would increase the fees TripPak must charge to its fleet customers by 35% to 39%.
“We are cautiously optimistic that Pilot will reconsider and come to accept our customer's goals," said Mark A. Cleveland, Executive Vice President of TripPak.
TripPak Express boxes, which allow drivers to get their documents to the companies they drive for quickly, can be found in more than 1,200 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. TMI says no other locations charge a fee.
Pilot is installing an alternative document transfer system, TRANSFLO Express. The new system involves networked scanners at fuel desks and was scheduled to be in 150 Pilot locations by the end of May, with the goal of eventually being installed in all Pilot locations. If a carrier is signed up for the system, drivers can take load documents to a participating Pilot fuel desk and give them to a cashier. The cashier will scan them and given them back to the driver, along with a receipt. Drivers or fleet managers can view the document images on the Internet.
