Caterpillar's ACERT-technology engines -- the company's solution for complying with stricter Environmental Protection Agency emission regulations -- are now available for order in Peterbilt trucks
and tractors, Peterbilt Motors Co. has announced.
The new Caterpillar C15 engine equipped with ACERT technology -- available with 435 to 550 horsepower ratings -- can now be ordered for Peterbilt Models 379, 387, 385, 378 and 357. The new Caterpillar C7 engine with ACERT technology -- available in horsepower ratings of 190 to 300 -- can now be ordered with Peterbilt's medium-duty Model 330 and low-cab-forward Model 320.
Limited production of vehicles spec'd with the new engines is under way, with full production expected by the fourth quarter.
Peterbilt and Caterpillar worked closely together to ensure our customers can order and take delivery of Peterbilt vehicles equipped with Caterpillar ACERT engines as soon as they are available," said Nick Panza, Peterbilt general manager and Paccar vice president.
Both the Caterpillar C7 and C15 engines with ACERT technology have been EPA-certified for compliance with stricter emissions regulations that went into effect in October 2002. According to Steve Brown, director of marketing for the Caterpillar Power Systems Division, Caterpillar engines with ACERT technology have undergone rigorous testing and are as reliable, durable and fuel efficient as the company's current, pre-ACERT engines.
Panza noted that the Caterpillar C11 and C13 engines with ACERT technology will be available in the fourth quarter.
