Pennsylvania’s three primary commercial-vehicle enforcement agencies kicked off a weeklong, statewide truck-inspection program Sunday.

State Police, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Public Utility Commission will conduct "Operation STRIKE Three," an acronym for "Safe Trucks In the Keystone."
"The goals of the operation are to reduce the number of crashes involving commercial vehicles and to alert trucking companies that we will not tolerate unsafe trucks on our highways," said State Police Commissioner Paul J. Evanko.
The truck inspections will be conducted at various locations on interstate highways and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The locations, which are not being disclosed, will change during the course of the week, Evanko said.
Among other actions, enforcement personnel will check commercial vehicles for equipment violations, verify the operators' commercial driver's licenses and check the loads of vehicles transporting hazardous materials.
In addition to the inspections, State Police patrols will put a special emphasis on citing drivers of both commercial and passenger vehicles who engage in actions that contribute to commercial vehicle-related crashes.
Two additional weeklong operations will be conducted before the end of the year, Col. Evanko said.
