Nearly 100 trucks paraded through downtown Reno, NV, last night to kick off TruckerFest '99, sponsored by Newport Communications and The Alamo Travel Center.

The 45-minute parade included both show trucks that will be competing in the National Assn. of Show Trucks event during TruckerFest over the next two days, as well as everyday working trucks. Streets were blocked off and motorcycle police led the way as the trucks slowly drove by the flatbed trailer acting as grandstand, blowing their air horns and waving at the spectators. Announcers, including RoadStar's David Kolman and RoadStar Radio News anchor Evan Lockridge, gave information about each truck and its owner as they cruised by the flatbed.
Afterward, drivers and exhibitors were treated to a free reception, featuring live entertainment by Joey Holliday.
TruckerFest activities today will include exhibits, free steak dinners for CDL drivers, trucker games, beauty makeovers for lady truckers, and a free private Waylon Jennings concert for truckers and their guests. All activities are at The Alamo in Reno/Sparks, NV, on I-80.
The event continues through Sunday at 1 p.m. For more information, visit http://www.heavytruck.com/kor/truckerfest.html.
