NTE, Downers Grove, Ill., announced its third consecutive quarter of triple-digit growth for revenue, business volumes and customer acquisition.

For the third quarter ending Sept. 30, the seven-year-old, business-to-business provider's revenues grew by more than 430 percent from a year ago, while trading volumes jumped by more than 300 percent.
Membership in NTE jumped by 110 percent to more than 1,650 customers who can now buy, sell and manage transportation services using NTE's online solutions. NTE's customer base grew by 270 member companies in the last quarter.
The trade rate, which measures the likelihood that a transaction will occur in NTE's online marketplace, also doubled compared to a year ago. In the third quarter 2001, about three in four shipments tendered to NTE actually traded, or were moved by a transportation provider.
Spotlighting more recent success by comparing this year's second and third quarters, NTE realized double-digit gains in key business growth categories, including trades, tenders and membership.
As it prepares for continued growth, NTE has created a new position of vice president of product & solution strategy. It has been filled by John Murphy, who has 15 years of experience in the transportation and technology industries, including officer-level assignments at Hub Group Inc. and 3PLex.
At NTE, Murphy is now responsible for the complete life cycle management of the company's products and solutions. He will oversee the company's product roadmap and strategy, product prioritization plan and pricing model.
Formed in 1994 as the National Transportation Exchange, NTE was the first online freight exchange, predating the Internet in trucking. They originally worked over dialups and dedicated connections. This year NTE broadened its roster of services beyond its online marketplace for buyers and sellers of transportation services. It now focuses on a broader array of e-commerce options to improve how companies execute and manage within their supply chains.
