The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's list of June recalls includes a Nissan Diesel recall for loss of steering, while some Peterbilts are recalled for possible fuel leakage.

More than 3,000 medium duty Nissan Diesel UD1200 or UD1400, years 1999-2000, manufactured between March 1998 and March 2000, may experience loss of steering with no warning. A manufacturing process could cause the mounting bolts and studs in the steering gear box to fail. Dealers will remove and inspect the two mounting bolts for thread damage and will install new mounting bolts. If damage to the bolt threads is evident, new nuts will also be installed.
More than 100 Year 2000 Peterbilt Model 387 trucks have been recalled because fuel leakage can occur, increasing the risk of fire. This defect is a result of the steer axle mudflaps and/or mudflap stiffeners rubbing a hole in the surface of the undercab fuel tank. Dealers will provide replacement mudflap assemblies smaller than the originals to owners, and the fuel tank will be checked for abrasion and replaced if damaged.
Owner notification for both recalls began in July. If you do not get the free remedy within a reasonable amount of time, contact Nissan Diesel at (972) 756-5500, or Peterbilt at (940) 591-4171.
