Maptuit Corp., Burlington, Mass., together with Smart Route Systems Inc., a Westwood company, announced the Virginia Department of Transportation has licensed the companies’ RealTraffic service to power their 511 website.
The Virginia Department of Transportation’s 511 website will support motorists in making better travel decisions with real-time traffic incidents, weather conditions, construction information and more. Maptuit is a provider of mapping and navigation applications for trucking.
“This service is very simple to use and is a great source of statewide traffic and travel information,” stated Connie Sorrell, Chief of VDOT System Operations. “In addition to road and traffic reports, the 511viriginia.org website also includes information on gas, food, lodging and transit connections.”
Real-time traffic information for 511 Virginia is hosted by Maptuit in conjunction with Smart Route Systems.
511viriginia.org provides accurate online real-time traffic, road condition and construction information. With street-level directions integrated with traffic incident information, the website will be able to provide drivers with the ability to see conditions that will affect their daily commute or travels. With the site’s Travel Services feature, visitors to Virginia can get information about local amenities such as hotels, restaurants and gas stations. Additional alerts can made available that include weather conditions, and other important broadcast messages to the community such as Amber Alerts.
