MATS, LOUISVILLE, KY -- Mack Trucks says it plans to grow its over-the-road market share, and it plans to deliver customers the uptime, product support and fuel economy gains they need to remain profitable. Speaking at a press conference during the Mid-America Trucking Show, Stephen Roy, president of Mack Trucks North American Sales and Marketing, said Mack has been developing product and solutions to meet fleets' needs.

“Customers need trucks that maximize their ROI,” Roy said. “The best way to do that is to provide products that increase fuel efficiency and aftermarket services that keep trucks on the road generating revenue. It also means offering uptime solutions that go beyond the industry norm to support our customers when they need it.”

Roy said Mack's Pinnacle model is ideally positioned to take the company's share of the on-highway market to 10% and beyond by the end of the year.

A recently introduced version of the Pedigree Powertrain, the Mack Super Econodyne, seamlessly integrates a Mack MP8-445SE engine, mDrive automated-manual transmission and proprietary axles to increase fuel efficiency by up to 3 percent compared to similarly spec’d vehicles. All Mack engines are GHG 2014-certified and offer up to a 2.4 percent increase in fuel efficiency, while the mDrive improves drivability and boosts fuel efficiency by up to 5 percent over a manual transmission.

All of these fuel-saving features are available in the Mack Pinnacle model, offered in both axle forward and axle back configurations, as well as an optional 6x2 version.

“We’ll put our fuel efficiency up against any other OEM’s products,” Roy said. “For Mack, it’s all about positively impacting our customers’ bottom lines. That’s the commitment we’re making to them every day.”

Uptime is Key

As for uptime and customer support, Mack's service and support network now consists of 428 Mack dealer locations. Since 2010, dealers have invested $325 million, increasing bay capacity by 32%, the number of Master Technicians by 150%, spare parts availability by 35%, hours available for service by 44% and parts department employees by 65%.

Mack is improving customers’ uptime with GuardDog Connect, part of Mack Pedigree Uptime Protection.

In addition to expanding its service network, Mack is developing an Uptime Center in Greensboro, N.C., which will house everyone involved in keeping customers trucks up and running. Mack also offers a previously announced telematics-based diagnostic solution called GuardDog Connect, which, when coupled with Mack's OneCall 24/7 customer support center, will keep diagnostic and repair time to an absolute minimum, Roy says.

“Our aftermarket solutions and extensive support offer customers peace of mind,” said Roy. “They can be assured that Mack is taking care of them and helping save them money by getting their trucks back on the road quicker. Couple these services with our fuel-efficient products, and Mack has a total business solution for our customers.”
