IdleAire Technologies is introducing its Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) Shorepower system into the terminal market, including fleet terminals, modal facilities, ports, border crossings and transfer facilities.

IdleAire’s first 50-space terminal installation will be built with Arrow Trucking Co. in Tulsa, Okla. A member of EPA’s voluntary SmartWay Transport Partnership for emissions reductions, Arrow pays for IdleAire ATE services for its company drivers, who have used 112,138 hours nationwide and nearly 15,000 hours at IdleAire’s existing Dallas location alone. IdleAire has saved Arrow more than 112,000 gallons of diesel, or $287,000 at today’s prices, and prevented almost 1,200 metric tons of diesel emissions. Over 1,200 fleets have signed up to provide IdleAire services to their drivers.
In addition to the agreement with Arrow Trucking, discussions are continuing with fleets that control another 113 locations, according to IdleAire.
“The fact that fleets have used our service at travel centers and are now asking us to install in their own terminals represents a new level of acceptance and adoption within the industry,” said IdleAire Executive Vice President Lynn Youngs, who said funding had been identified for terminals in Texas. Youngs said IdleAire has received many calls from fleets using the IdleAire service asking for the IdleAire system at their terminals to reap the same cost reductions and driver benefits as from using the system at travel centers.
IdleAire has already delivered 4.7 million hours of service to the nation’s long-haul drivers, conserved nearly 5 million gallons of fuel (over $12.5 million at today’s diesel prices) for its 1,200-plus signed fleets, and has reduced diesel emissions by 110 million pounds or nearly 50,000 metric tons. The company has long-term, exclusive installation contracts with more than 600 travel center locations, including TA, Petro, Pilot and numerous other smaller chains and independents.
