Tired of messing with folding maps or flipping through road atlases? If you’re looking for a high-tech solution, RoadStar Technology Editor John Bendel has the solution in the September issue.
You’ll find lots of retail routing alternatives out there, but only two major products are specifically designed for commercial truck drivers: RouteTools Professional Driver Edition and CoPilot Truck.
Rand McNally’s RouteTools Professional Driver Edition is based on the company’s MileMaker commercial mileage software. ALK’s CoPilot Truck is based on ALK’s PC*Miler software. Both programs operate in Microsoft Windows, so both will run on a laptop in your truck. In fact, CoPilot Truck is designed to run on your laptop while you drive.
In the September “Techno Talk,” Bendel walks the reader through both programs, what each offers and how they differ. For instance, while RouteTools offers regularly updated construction information and CoPilot Truck does not, CoPilot Truck provides directions down to the street address, while RouteTools only provides city-to-city routing.
