American Trucking Associations President and CEO Bill Graves said ATA’s 2005 Management Conference and Exhibition (MC&E) will feature former U.S. Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham and former U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge as keynote speakers.

Abraham and Ridge will address two of the most critical issues facing trucking today: soaring fuel costs and ever-tighter security requirements.
Abraham and Ridge will appear at the 2005 MC&E to be held in Boston, Oct. 15-18, 2005.
“We’re living in an unprecedented time as it relates to energy. Skyrocketing fuel costs are one of the greatest threats facing the trucking industry and the overall economy today,” said Graves. “As one of the key architects of President Bush’s energy plan, Spencer Abraham has been a consistent voice on the need for a national energy policy that meets the energy requirements of the nation today and tomorrow. He understands the strategic picture – and he knows that inaction is not a responsible option.” Abraham will speak at the MC&E’s Opening General Session on Monday, Oct. 17.
Tom Ridge, the former governor of Pennsylvania who accepted President Bush’s call after the Sept. 11 attacks to lead the newly formed Department of Homeland Security, will address ATA’s Advocacy and Government Affairs Luncheon on Sunday, Oct. 16. Ridge will discuss new security threats facing the United States and their implications for the trucking industry.
The trucking industry faces significant new requirements on driver screening and training, cargo security measures, routes, and access to critical points. The ATA also has initiated the widely-lauded Highway Watch program, which has trained thousands of drivers to spot and report suspicious activity and other hazards on the road.
The MC&E is the trucking industry’s leading trade show, with more than one hundred exhibitors showcasing the latest in technology, educational sessions to keep busy executives ahead of the game, and opportunities to network with key business contacts.
