A food producer is marking National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 15-21, with a 10-week campaign that will ask drivers what their profession means to them, and the writer of most popular response will win a cash prize.

Rudolph Foods in Lima, Ohio, says it wants to salute drivers “for transporting nearly all of the food to American consumers.” Rudolph claims to be the world’s largest manufacturer of pork rinds, a popular snack.

“Truck drivers are at the core of the Rudolph Foods operation,” said Mark Singleton, vice president, sales and marketing. “Hearing from truck drivers will help all of us understand and appreciate, in a greater scope, what is meaningful to them.

“None of the foods produced land on our plates without truckers. This is our small way of saying thank you.”

The company will ask truck drivers to enter the contest by explaining in one or two sentences what being a truck driver means to them. Details of the campaign can be found on Facebook.com/RudolphFoods and at RudolphFoods.com/TruckDriverAppreciationWeek.

Responses can be shared via Facebook or on the website, the company’s announcement said.

On Sept. 1, a panel of experts will choose the top 12 submissions and during the week-long celebration consumers will be asked to vote for the best answer. Voting will take place from Sept. 15-21, 2013 on both the Rudolph Foods and Southern Recipe Facebook pages, and Rudolph Foods’ website.

The response with the most votes will win a $1,500 cash prize from Rudolph Foods.

Members of the Rudolph Foods community, Facebook fans, friends and family of truck drivers and the pork rind panel are encouraged to follow along with the campaign using hashtags #ThankATruckDriver and #TruckDriverAppreciationWeek, in addition to voting for the response they feel is the best.
