In 1989 when the Rip Griffin Travel Center in Terrell, Texas, opened, worship services were held by small groups in the drivers' lounge. Over the next few years, the driver's lounge became too small to hold the growing group of worshipers, so the services were moved to the Country Fare Restaurant's largest dining area. Now the dining area has been outgrown with travelers coming to worship, so earlier this year, Rip Griffin Travel Center opened a Truck Stop Ministry Chapel holding daily 7 p.m. services.
The Baptist Missions of Kaufman and Van Zant counties of Texas, donated a building for the chapel. The building has been placed on the Rip Griffin location and has been reconstructed to operate as a chapel.
The chapel's minister, Ricky Null, conducts the daily services and has ministered and counseled numerous drivers since the opening. The involvement of drivers has increased steadily.
8:30 a.m. Sunday morning services are still held in the Terrell Room, the back dining room of the Country Fare Restaurant. This service is held for Rip Griffin staff and employees who may join the services.
Rip Griffin's Truck Stop Ministry is located at I-20 and Wilson Road, Exit 503 in Terrell, Texas.
