Caterpillar Inc. introduced its on-highway truck and bus engines equipped with ACERT technology at the Mid-America Trucking Show on Wednesday.

Caterpillar says the low-emission technology provides a long-term emissions solution for the North American trucking, bus, construction and mining industries, and positions it to meet future emissions regulations for both on and off-highway engines.
Caterpillar says the engine line will offer five engines with ACERT technology -- the C7, C9, C11, C13 and C15 -- all of which will meet EPA emissions regulations without sacrificing engine performance. The C7 and C9 have already received EPA certification.
"The introduction of these engines marks another significant milestone in strengthening Caterpillar's leadership in the North American truck and bus industries," said James J. Parker, Caterpillar vice president with responsibility for the company's Power Systems Marketing Division.
"We are experiencing strong customer acceptance of our current engines and, thanks to the dedication of hundreds of Caterpillar employees, we are delivering ACERT technology on schedule.
"We believe that ACERT technology is the best long-term solution for our truck and bus customers -- who demand reliable and durable engines that meet EPA emissions standards without paying higher fuel and maintenance costs," said Parker.
Caterpillar expects to accumulate more than 10 million miles of testing on engines with ACERT technology by the third quarter of 2003.
