The Truckload Carriers Association and the National Industrial Transportation League announced that many of their members will suspend regular business Wednesday for 15 minutes starting at 8:45 a.m. in commemoration of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
The 15-minute tribute will include suspension of freight pickups and deliveries, customer appointments and even telephone calls.
In addition, many TCA's member professional drivers will be wearing red, white and blue in lieu of their company uniforms and will be keeping their headlights on from 12:01 a.m. to midnight.
"A year ago, many United States citizens found themselves wishing they could help, but instead sat helplessly in front of their television sets watching the aftermath from the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon," says the TCA announcement. "However, a number of TCA and NITL members were called upon for supplies and equipment, which they delivered expeditiously throughout the nation. Those companies that were not asked to deliver goods coordinated several efforts internally within their companies, such as blood drives,
clothes drives, and providing payroll deduction forms to employees who wanted to donate money to the American Red Cross."
