Autocar Xpeditor trucks have shown strength in the municipal refuse market recently, scoring contracts in competitive bidding by major cities adding trucks to their fleets,
according to the Indiana-based company.
The wins have come in both the city and county of Salt Lake, Dallas and Ontario, Calif., with other announcements expected soon.
In Salt Lake, 39 Xpeditor WXR 64s are being added to the refuse fleet, largely because of test runs that were part of the bidding process, Autocar said. "Our trucks have to handle all kinds of conditions from 20 below to 110 above, snow and ice, steep hills, tight quarters and drivers who like a lot of cab space," says Denny Mecham, Salt Lake County Sanitation Division manager.
The City of Dallas returned to Xpeditors this year, purchasing 18 trucks after having gone with a competitor in their previous refuse truck purchase.
And the City of Ontario, an eastern suburb of Los Angeles, added 15 Xpeditor WXLL64 trucks to its fleet, making a total of 23 Xpeditors the city has purchased in a little over a year. The Westport-Cummins C-Gas Plus ultra low emission engines were a major consideration, according to James Blakely, government and fleet sales specialist at Carmenita Truck in nearby Santa Fe Springs.
Autocar LLC of Hagerstown, Ind., is a manufacturer and marketer of low-cab-over-engine (LCOE) Class 8 trucks. The company's products are sold into an array of heavy vocational truck markets, primarily in refuse and waste disposal. Autocar is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Grand Vehicle Works Holdings, LLC of Highland Park, Ill.
