The American Trucking Associations has implemented an agreement with Spill Center Inc., a leading hazmat support and environmental claims management company, to provide hazardous materials spill reporting and support services as an ATA member benefit.

Hazardous materials haulers currently may be responsible for reporting hazmat spills in thousands of jurisdictions nationwide. Until now, it was difficult to determine whether a particular spill required the carrier to immediately notify the authorities in the location where the spill occurred. Working with Spill Center, ATA members can more easily can determine their spill obligations to better comply with local and national spill reporting requirements.
"Our members need to know the reporting requirements for the different jurisdictions nationwide," said Richard Moskowitz, ATA assistant general counsel. "We welcome Spill Center's expertise and encourage our members to take advantage of the wealth of no-charge online resources, as well as fee-based support services that are available at a discount to ATA members."
Through a comprehensive program of spill support services as well as legal, technical and environmental expertise and resources, Spill Center can help motor carriers control costs and limit liability from accidental releases of hazardous materials, diesel fuel and other regulated materials, according to Spill Center President Tom Moses, an environmental attorney and former U.S. EPA toxicologist.
Online resources include a state-by-state spill reporting database that lists current regulatory requirements and agency contact information. For example, motor carriers involved in a spill can click on an Incident Reporting icon that links them to state reporting requirements and emergency contact numbers. Spill Center compliance associates are available 24 hours a day.
