The American Trucking Assns. has named Curtis Whalen executive director of its Intermodal Motor Carriers Conference.

The IMCC was established during the recent ATA Management Conference as an alliance for motor carriers involved in intermodal trucking, the ATA said in a release this week.
Before joining ATA, Whalen was director of energy and security systems for Flight Explorer, a PC-based, real time geo-referenced visual display system tracking aviation, maritime and ports traffic, ground transportation, electric power grids and other critical infrastructure components.
He was also VP of legislative affairs for the American Waterways Operators, representing the inland and coastal maritime industry and VP government affairs for Transco Energy, a Texas-based energy transportation and exploration company. Whalen served as an attorney with the motor carrier finance section of the Interstate Commerce Commission and later as chief Republican counsel of the U.S. House Public Works and Transportation Committee’s subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
Whalen will plan, organize and implement a program to build membership activities of the ATA-IMCC and expand on the policy and research work of IMCC.
According to the ATA release, intermodal service is the fastest growing sector of the trucking industry.
