Detroit Diesel Corp.'s flagship Series 60 heavy-duty diesel engine was recently recognized by Diesel Power Magazine as the No. 2 ranked "Best Diesel Engine Ever" on a list compiled by the publication.

The No. 1 ranking went to Rudolph Diesel's first working diesel engine. Rudolph Diesel is considered the "father" of the modern diesel engine.
"We are very proud to be recognized by Diesel Power Magazine. This is a huge compliment to the well-renowned history of our Series 60," said Gregory Stohler, director of marketing for Detroit Diesel. "With its reliability, durability and excellent fuel economy, this recognition really validates what we know has been a superior product in the marketplace since its launch in 1987. Looking ahead, we are confident that we will bring an equally superb product to our customers and the market for 2007."
Since its launch in 1987, Detroit Diesel has manufactured more than 850,000 Series 60 engines. The engine, which was the first heavy-duty diesel engine with fully integrated electronic controls, has led the industry for on- highway diesel power, according to the engine builder. Additionally, since 1992, the engine has been North America's most popular heavy-duty on-highway diesel engine.
"With up to 515 horsepower and up to 1,650 pounds of torque, we know the Series 60 has been considered a workhorse for over-the-road and long-haul applications for nearly 20 years," said Stohler. "We pride ourselves on providing a truly reliable engine to our customers."
Detroit Diesel offers a complete line of engines from 170 to 515 horsepower for the on-highway and vocational markets. It is a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler AG, part of the DaimlerChrysler Truck Group, and an affiliate company of Freightliner LLC.
