California-based Phillips Industries is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the coiled electrical cable, standard equipment on the majority of Class 8 truck models manufactured in the U.S.

The forerunner of today’s industry-standard coiled electrical cable was developed by Phillips Industries three decades ago to meet the needs of trucking fleets for a lightweight electrical connection between the trailer and the tractor.
Although many at the time didn’t see a practical use for a lightweight, synthetic coiled cable, the people at Phillips worked for more than a year in blending plastic compounds together to develop the concept. In the mid-1970s, a blend was created that provided both the required flexibility in extreme cold weather as well as maintaining its recoil memory in high heat applications.
In recognizing this important anniversary for his company, Bob Phillips, president of Phillips Industries said Phillips builds top of the line five-year warranted coils as well as cables that satisfy the low-price buyer’s objectives. Performance rated cables operate from minus 90-degree to 230-degree temperatures, and have excellent ratings for recoil memory, chemical resistance and abrasion resistance.
Additional features include finger grips for easy coupling and uncoupling and the new QCP, a corrosion protected cable assembly, has the added feature of a quick and easy plug cartridge replacement for on the road repairs. Part numbers and descriptions can be found in the on-line catalog at www.phillipsind.com.
