Defywire Launches Wireless Mobile Logistics App
Defywire Inc., Herndon, Va., a wireless middleware and mobile application provider, has introduced LogiTrac, a new mobile software product for the logistics industry

Defywire Inc., Herndon, Va., a wireless middleware and mobile application provider, has introduced LogiTrac, a new mobile software product for the logistics industry.
The mobile data application enables transportation and shipping companies to run operations more efficiently through better inventory management, reduced transportation costs, speedier delivery and improved customer service.
According to Defywire, the new application is unique in that it solves not just one but several problems for logistics industry players. The software integrates five key functions:
* Scheduling and dispatch/routing.
* Order tracking and signature capture.
* Order verification.
* Returns
* Employee time management/record-keeping.
According to Defywire, one LogiTrac beta customer estimates it is on track to save $4.5 million a year, 2.5% of its transportation budget.
Using the Defywire solution with returns, drivers can scan bar codes in real-time to ensure that the customer in question actually purchased the product that they are returning, thus eliminating fraudulent returns. If the return is verified, then the warehouse is automatically notified that a return is coming in, which results in fewer items "disappearing" on the way back to the warehouse.
"While many companies in the logistics industry increase operational efficiency using wireless applications such as real-time package tracking, these solutions tend to be one-dimensional and cover only a small portion of their operations. This means that logistics companies are not taking full advantage of the power of wireless technology to cut costs and improve efficiency," said Jill Stelfox, chairman and CEO of Defywire. "Our LogiTrac software allows logistics companies to easily integrate wireless functionality to streamline operations in a number of key areas, from delivery and warehousing to returns."
