Rush Enterprises Inc., a full-service retailer of Peterbilt trucks and other equipment, is celebrating its 39th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the company bought and restored a 1965 Peterbilt -- manufactured just 12 days after Rush Enterprises was incorporated -- which was officially unveiled during a celebratory event held in New Braunfels, Texas.
W. Marvin Rush, founder and chairman of Rush Enterprises, was joined at the celebration by his son Rusty Rush, president and COO of the family-operated company. Also joining the event were Peterbilt General Manager and Paccar Vice President Dan Sobic and Peterbilt Assistant General Manager Bruce Ewald.
The search for a 1965 Peterbilt truck to commemorate the founding of Rush Enterprises and its long association with Peterbilt Motors Co. began several years ago. A 1965 Peterbilt 351A, Serial No. 18922 was found in 2002 and the company began the long process of restoring it to its original condition.
The restoration work was done at the Rush Peterbilt Truck Center in San Antonio, Texas, using original factory production sheets. Parts that could not be found were forged using original factory templates.
The work was finished on October 15, 2003, and the narrow-nose, butterfly-hood, Peterbilt daycab now looks the same as the day it rolled off the assembly line on March 15, 1965.
With a completely restored engine and drive train, plans call for the 1965 Peterbilt to be displayed at Rush Enterprises' events and other local attractions. Currently parked in front of Rush corporate headquarters, the vehicle sports Dulux red and white paint, and chrome trim. The aluminum frame tractor is powered by a Cummins NTC-335 engine and is equipped with Spicer main and auxiliary transmissions, Hendrickson Rubber Ride suspension and Rockwell rear axles.
Rush Enterprises owns and operates 36 Rush Peterbilt Truck Centers providing one-stop service for its customers, including retail sales of new and used equipment, aftermarket parts sales, service and repair facilities and financing, leasing/rental and insurance services.
Rush Peterbilt Truck Centers are located in Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, Florida, Alabama and New Mexico.
