SMC³, Peachtree City, Ga., has announced that the National Motor Freight Traffic Assn. will issue Version 100-AD of the popular National Motor Freight Classification

book on Nov. 26.
SMC³ supplies the classification book to carriers and shippers throughout North America under an exclusive agreement with the American Trucking Assns.
The National Motor Freight Classification provides a definitive categorization and class grouping of freight commodities based on their density, stowability, ease of handling and liability. Both carriers and shippers use the reference to simplify the comparative evaluation of the many thousands of products moving in today's marketplace.
The National Classification Committee holds open, public meetings to review and vote on change proposals. Anyone may propose a change and appear at any meeting, or submit statements expressing a point of view regarding a classification proposal.
A subscription to the National Motor Freight Classification includes the current book version plus supplements that follow throughout the year. SMC³ provides the supplements to subscribers either in hardcopy or digital form. Subscriptions renew annually in November and the new book becomes effective in December.
Renewals are not automatic; current users must contact SMC³ to renew. The effective date for the information within the 100-AD book is Dec. 27, 2003.
Shippers and carriers who prefer a digital alternative can purchase SMC³’s FastClass, a PC software program that searches the text of the National Motor Freight Classification for the user. FastClass operates in the Windows environment, and includes a complete cross-reference to all applicable rules, notes, packaging and carrier listings. Search results can be cut-and-pasted into a bill of lading or other document with just a few mouse clicks.
