January was a busy month for OTC, a brand of SPX, which launched several new products, including a new 10-Ton Capacity Portable Multipurpose C-Frame Press, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Cleaner, new heavy-duty service jacks, and a Differential Mounting Adapter.
10-Ton Capacity Portable Multipurpose C-Frame Press
OTC's new multipurpose press is designed for a wide range of clamping, pressing and bending needs, and is ideal for industrial, marine, roadside maintenance and general automotive applications. Weighing less than 28 pounds, the press can be easily transported to the point of service.
When increased stability is required, it can be mounted to a workbench or other stationary object, for use in welding and metal fabrication. The press can be used in any vertical or horizontal position, making it especially helpful when performing repairs in the field. The C-Frame press can be coupled to any 4-ton and 10-ton Porta Power Pump.
The set includes pre-attached base, storage case and adapters.
DPF Cleaner
The new DPF Cleaner is designed to remove particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gases of engines outfitted with DPFs. The cleaning process allows the DPF to be cleaned as part of a general maintenance schedule at the service location with minimal time away from the vehicle, providing fleet managers with flexibility and control of their DPF cleaning at a local level, while reducing spare DPF inventory costs.
"As part of the emission reduction process, DPFs capture ash and soot generated during the diesel combustion cycle and, through a regeneration process, oxidize the soot leaving the ash behind," said Eric Adamson, SPX service solutions product manager of equipment and heavy-duty tools. "Consequently, these filters become clogged and must be cleaned or replaced."
The unit consists of an enclosed HEPA-filtered cabinet, a provision for 120- to 150-psi air pressure and a strong vacuum, which helps control loose ash in the cabinet. According to the company, it can deliver up to 92 percent cleaning efficiency of ash laden DPFs when used with authorized SPX adapters and burst patterns.
The unit is microprocessor controlled with a backpressure control system, an electrical control circuit, and a backpressure warning indicator. It allows the user to select from multiple OEM cleaning parameters for tank pressure, burst duration, number of burst cycles, and clamp force.
Service Jacks
OTC has also introduced two new heavy-duty service jacks, the OTC 6-Ton and 10-Ton HD Service Jacks, which are specifically engineered to meet the needs of establishments or shops where heavy-duty equipment is used to lift loaded trailers, buses, and other Class 7 and 8 vehicles.
"Most importantly, these jacks incorporate a 'dead-man's' lowering control system that prevents the load from lowering without continuous, active input from the technician," said Adamson. "This provides exceptional control of the load during descent and increases the safety of the end user."
The jacks include an easy-to-use foot pedal for quick approach of the lifting saddle to the load. A built-in tray provides the technician with a place to store tools, fasteners, or anything else that they need while performing repairs, and its modular construction simplifies assembly and allows for easy maintenance.
Differential Mounting Adapter
The new Differential Mounting Adapter is designed to facilitate the removal and installation of differentials in heavy-duty trucks. This adapter mounts easily using existing bolt patterns and fits most common differentials currently in use on Category 7 and 8 heavy-duty trucks.
With a rated capacity of 1,000 pounds, the adapter features a convenient and highly secure mounting point for the yoke and can be easily adjusted to fit the widest possible range of differentials that a shop is likely to encounter.
