Cadec Global, a provider of fleet management solutions, has partnered with ALK Technologies to offer CoPilot Truck GPS navigation on Cadec 100 Series On-Board Computers
. The new service will be available to customers of Cadec Mobius TTS and PowerVue fleet management solutions, which help fleets monitor driver behavior, improve safety and reduce costs.

CoPilot Truck is a hands-free, truck-legal GPS navigation system that provides voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions. The solution guides drivers around roads, bridges and tunnels with truck restrictions. In addition, it safely broadens the geographic reach of each driver.

With the integrated solution, drivers are connected to Cadec's driver workflow solution, which allows customers to send updated routes to the cab's computer. This way, drivers can automatically access the updates along with turn-by-turn navigation and voice prompts from a single system. The route is automatically sent to CoPilot Truck.

Drivers use their on-board computer to select the next destination from a list of due deliveries. Upon selection and confirmation of the destination, the CoPilot Truck GPS application is launched. Taking into account factors such as total vehicle length, width, weight and consignment, CoPilot Truck then plots a suitable route from dock to dock.

During the trip, additional information on screen provides the driver with the distance to the destination, an estimated time of arrival and visual instruction on their next turn. Upon arrival, the device will toggle back into the Mobius TTS or PowerVue application so that the driver can complete the delivery on site.

"Fleets are more concerned than ever with efficiency - combining fleet management with detailed, dock-to-dock navigation can go a long way toward reducing unnecessary mileage and costs," said Frank Moreno, Cadec's vice president of marketing and product management. "Automated route planning sent directly to the driver's on-board computer can eliminate driver-entry errors and potentially costly routing mistakes."
