Con-way Freight employees in Gary, Ind., voted against union representation in an election that was conducted by the National Labor Relations Board.

The vote defeated a campaign by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union to organize the terminal’s mechanics.

Con-way Freight does not currently have any contracts with a union at any of its locations, according to the company.

According to a statement released by the compan, Greg Lehmkuhl, president of Con-way Freight, commended employees for voting down the union.

“It is rewarding to see our employees reach the conclusion that we can best work together directly,” said Lehmkuhl. “Our experience has been that when our employees have the opportunity to get the facts– they choose to reject union representation.”
