To assist its fleet-management customers in boosting safety, Island Tech Services is now offering a comprehensive fleet safety solution that incorporates real-time driver monitoring and coaching. ITS said the system is designed to reduce crashes, protect lives, improve driver retention, and enhance operations while saving money.

ITS said it recently partnered with Orbcomm, a global provider of machine-to-machine and internet of things solutions, to offer Orbcomm's driver mentoring and fleet safety technology. ITS said its a real-time fleet safety solution designed to detect unsafe driver behavior and provide pertinent verbal coaching before a crash or fineable offense occurs.

The Orbcomm solution combines in-vehicle monitoring devices, a dedicated mobile connection, comprehensive cloud-based application, and optional backup satellite support. It integrates with sensors and mobile applications such as driver ID, panic button, driver fatigue monitoring systems, and lane departure with collision avoidance solutions.

According to ITS, experts agree that a comprehensive program to reduce professional driver accidents requires more than simply monitoring and reacting after the fact to driver behavior, it requires real-time intervention and assistance to correct unsafe driving behaviors that lead to accidents, fines and higher insurance risks.
