Navistar's SuperTruck is the fourth and final truck to come from round 1 of the Department of Energy's SuperTruck funding initiative. Equipment Editor Jim Park caught up with the truck and chief engineer Dean Oppermann at the annual conference of the SAE Commercial Vehicles conference in Rosemont, Illinois.

Volvo Trucks North America revealed its contribution to the Department of Energy's SuperTruck project on Sept. 13, 2016. VTNA President Göran Nyberg presented the truck to DOE Secretary Ernest Moniz near DOE headquarters in Washington, D.C., Equipment Editor Jim Park was there.

Freightliner's new Cascadia was revealed formally on Thursday, September 1. Reporters were told more about the truck and they had to opportunity ride in one and take photos. Equipment Editor Jim Park has these photos from press day.

Freightliner Trucks revealed its next-generation Cascadia model for 2017 on Aug. 31, 2016, in Colorado Springs, Colo. The official launch date is Sept. 1, but Freightliner threw back the curtain a few hours early with 12 trucks in fleet colors as a tribute to the largest customers in the Cascadia stable. Daimler Trucks unveiled its Highway Pilot Connect, a platooning system that virtually links semi-autonomous trucks on the highway, with demonstration runs on March 21-22, 2016 amidst typically heavy mid-day traffic on the Autobahn near Düsseldorf, Germany.
The basis of Highway Pilot Connect is networking between vehicles and precise awareness of the surroundings, Daimler said. On the highway, the three semitrailer combinations form a platoon with each operating only 15 meters (just under 50 feet) apart. Unlike other platooning systems, the OEM noted, Highway Pilot Connect is unique in that it uses semi-autonomous trucks.

“LNG is one of the better-kept secrets in trucking,” says David Jaskolski — and he doesn’t want it to be. He's with Pivotal LNG, a subsidiary of Georgia-Based energy company AGL Resources, which operates a liquifaction facility in Trussville, Ala., outside Birmingham. The company supplies more than 1 million gallons of LNG a month to UPS and other truck fleets. Editor in Chief Deborah Lockridge took a tour of the facility.
